May/June 2011 Examinations Session News Update

Dear students,

We understand that your studies have been disrupted this year and you have had to miss much of your school time. This has obviously seriously affected your preparations for the exams in May-June. We’re very sorry for your situation and want to help in any way we can.

Some have suggested that the exam session be postponed by 2 weeks. We’ve discussed with the awarding bodies but are sorry to say that this isn’t possible. These exams are administered across the region at the same time, not just in Egypt. Therefore, to postpone exams in Egypt would mean postponing them across the whole region as it would be impossible to do the tests here after other countries have already taken them. Practically speaking this just isn’t possible.

However, we do want to help, and can do so in the following ways:

• We have already agreed with the awarding bodies that special consideration will be applied for examinations taking place in the coming series where evidence shows performance has been impacted. Schools have been sent the appropriate form to complete.

• We have informed schools that any student wanting to transfer to the November session can do so at no extra cost.
